Switzerland: Programme Manager (Nepal)

Norlha is a non-profit, non-political, non-religious association based in Lausanne, Switzerland, that supports remote communities in the Himalayas in building capacities that will allow their sustainable development, through integrated projects in food security, income generation and environment protection, with a strong focus on supporting women. In Nepal, Norlha currently has four projects linked to sustainable small holder farming and post-disaster livelihood reconstruction. In order to support the management of these projects Norlha is looking for a:

Programme Manager (Nepal)

Volunteer position, long-term assignment

Responsibilities and tasks

· Guide and support programme officers in carrying out project management activities in a professional, appropriate and timely manner and coordinate their work at programme level.

· Assure the effective monitoring of project achievements including oversight of Quarterly and Annual Reports and other reports required by funders.

· Contribute to develop and draft project proposals.

· Ensure effective exchange with Norlha Regional Office in Nepal.

· Ensure effective partnerships with Swiss based and international organisations for project implementation .

· Assess the needs for staff extension or replacement and contribute in the recruitment process.

· Effectively work with other departments mainly Human Resources, Communications and Partnerships within Norlha, to support the operational and strategic development of Norlha.

Candidate Profile

· Engagement and experience in international development, involvement in field projects in developing countries is an asset.

· Knowledge of and preferably experience in the management of development projects (including planning, monitoring and evaluation).

· Proficient in analysis and synthesis and in reporting.

· Excellent speaking and writing skills in English and preferably also in French.

· Excellent computer and inter-personal skills.

· Highly motivated and dynamic personality with a good degree of autonomy, eager to take initiatives and capable to perform in team work.

· Comfort working remotely and a high degree of autonomy.

· Interest in the “behind-the-scenes” aspects of development work.

Internship duration and work time: part-time assignment at 30%, during 9 months minimal, preferable longer

This post is not paid and an applicant must have a currently valid working permit in Switzerland

Location: home-based work with regular visits to Norlha office in Lausanne for meetings
