Switzerland: Gender Mainstreaming Officer (F/M)

Norlha is a non-profit, non-political, non-religious NGO based in Lausanne, Switzerland, that supports remote communities in the Himalayas in building capacities that will allow their sustainable development, through integrated projects lives in terms of food security, livelihoods and gender equality. In order to expand its gender equality portfolio, Norlha is looking for a:

Gender Mainstreaming Officer (F/M)

volunteer position or internship(part-time)

Under the supervision of the Head of the Center for Women in the Himalayas, the incumbent will be responsible for further developing gender mainstreaming tools and mechanisms and building the capacity of Norlha staff to ensure a gender sensitive approach to Norlha’s programs and individual projects. The Gender mainstreaming officer works in close cooperation with the Senior Gender Officer in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Lead Norlha’s process of mainstreaming gender in Norlha and its programs and projects

· Oversee, implement and monitor the implementation of the gender mainstreaming strategy.

· Raise awareness and commitment on Gender issues in Norlha Lausanne and Kathmandu.

· Keep abreast of the latest developments in gender mainstreaming and update the strategy and its toolbox regularly.

· Network and share knowledge with external gender experts and attend important events on gender organized by international organizations and academia in Switzerland.

· Support and advice Norlha staff in Lausanne and Kathmandu

· Advice and support to Norlha staff at operational level and to senior management at policy level.

· Provide technical support to Norlha staff in mainstreaming gender in the project cycle.

· Provide backstopping throughout the implementation of the gender mainstreaming strategy.

· Build the capacity of Norlha staff and partner organisations

· Organize trainings and workshops on gender and gender mainstreaming for Norlha staff in Lausanne and Kathmandu, and partner organizations.

· Provide staff with relevant information on gender and gender mainstreaming on a regular basis.

Candidate Profile

· A degree in Social Sciences, Gender or equivalent.

· Work experience in development or humanitarian sector, field experience an asset.

· Experience in Gender and/or Gender mainstreaming.

· Pro-active and able to work independently.

· Good skills in planning and organizing, training experience as an asset.

· Fluently spoken and written English.

· Interest and affinity with the Himalayas.

· Valid working permit.

*Duration and work time:*** Long term position: at least 9 months at 50% or more

Short term position: at least 6 months at 80% or more
